Junior Curling

Welcome to our Junior Curling Program.  We focus on FUNdamentals of the game to provide an overview of curling.  Delivery skills, sweeping, scoreboard, curling terms and more!

FUN, FITNESS, KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME AND ENJOYMENT OF PLAYING

We ask for your commitment to attend each week which helps us provide instruction to improve skill in a timely manner, and enables everyone to get the maximum learning from this program.   Please arrive right after school so attendance can be taken, and everyone is ready to do warm up at 3:55.  Late arrival disrupts our starting time.   Each day is finished by 5:10 pm.

CLOTHING TO WEAR:

Stretchy pants; to enable an easy delivery stretchy pants are a must.  Jeans or tight pants do not allow the child to get into the correct delivery position

Mitts or Gloves; with a grippy glove for stability when sweeping

Light jacket or heavy sweater; winter jackets do not allow for mobility in delivery or sweeping

EQUIPMENT NEEDED:  Broom,

Curling Shoes or Grippers to wear with clean indoor shoes that have a rubber sole (plastic soles are too slippery)

For sliders you can use tape or slip on sliders

For the 2020-2021 Season we are doing things differently with the equipment, and are making a plan for Juniors to have their own equipment they take home each week. To keep our
junior curling items sanitized after each use would be quite a chore. There is not enough storage for each curlers item’s to be stored individually throughout the season to keep it safe.
We would suggest that if possible, for them to have their own equipment, as it would be best for all. It is known that these youngster’s feet grow during the season and always each year. We could possibly do an equipment swap prior to the next season for equipment that has been outgrown. The club will offer rental of shoes, broom, grippers currently at the club with a rental cost of $50/season which includes a $25.00 refund if equipment returned in good condition with allowance for normal wear and tear. We will plan a time to get equipment together once curling is a go.  We will also be reaching out to members for donations of gently used curling equipment to update our supply.

LEARN TO CURL:  this is for the new young curler, we teach delivery, sweeping, and general knowledge of the game to get started with curling.   Designed for children ages 7-13.

ADVANCED JUNIOR LEAGUE:  this is for the more experienced young curler, or older teens wishing to learn the game.  While still working on delivery and sweeping technique, the league play allows for more instruction on the game itself.  You can register as a team, or as an individual.
